The King County Humane Society Shelter-in Factoria 8/22/2006

Over the years, we've adopted two cats and a dog from the Humane Society shelter, near Factoria. The staff there is mostly volunteer and incredibly helpful...and patient. We usually "interview" a lot of animals in the private rooms they have there. This gives you a chance to get at least a brief read on the personality of each animal before you make the big step and decide which one to bring home. The shelter is clean and seems to attract a lot of people ready to take on a new pet. We've found that it is best to get there just after opening time in order to avoid crowds and long lines. Like many shelters these days, The Humane Society no longer euthanizes animals which don't find a family within a certain time frame; instead, they circulate them to other shelters in the hopes that a good match will be found. This makes me happy. By the way, you can see a lot of the animals they have up for adoption at their web site: www.seattlehumane.org/ more
