I'm not sure if it's due to pressure form Denver-based (and growing!) Tattered Cover, but the Barnes and Noble chains are definitely coming up in the world. The addition of coffee bars and comfy seating gives all of their locations a great ambiance.
A recent visit to the Littleton location had me on a search for resources on Littleton hiking trails. The woman whom I approached was quick, courteous and very helpful--leading me directly to what I wanted and then leaving me alone to browse (I hate being hovered over!). Upon finding a multitude of books on my subject, I plopped down in a comfy chair by the window and proceeded to peruse to my heart's content.
Some folks are distracted by the piped-in music played, but I like it. It's usually instrumental only and quite subtle. In fact, my only distraction is the rude customers who insist on conducting their cell phone conversations while I am trying to read!
