My wife and have visited this Steak N' Shake a few times, and though the food is good enough and cheap enough (especially with frequent Chicago tribune coupons) for us to have made a few repeat trips, the service is not so hot. We waited almost 15 minutes for a server to ask us what we wanted to drink, long after our menus were folded up on the table. As usual, though, the food came quickly after that, and was delicious. Don't expect to be wowed by stellar service, but they have darn good burgers and more.
