Greasy but great 7/20/2011

I would give Steak n Shake four stars because they have good steak burgers and shakes, along with friendly and good service, but the limited locations in the area is what makes them special and bumps them up to five stars. I always go through the drive thru and have never had any problems. Beware to the newbies, this food is really greasy and the shakes have been known to almost cause me to blow my o-ring. more

Good food, mediocre service 1/28/2006

My wife and have visited this Steak N' Shake a few times, and though the food is good enough and cheap enough (especially with frequent Chicago tribune coupons) for us to have made a few repeat trips, the service is not so hot. We waited almost 15 minutes for a server to ask us what we wanted to drink, long after our menus were folded up on the table. As usual, though, the food came quickly after that, and was delicious. Don't expect to be wowed by stellar service, but they have darn good burgers and more. more
