Located dead center in downtown, this pint-sized sushi refuge is a perennial favorite of collegians and over-30 coots alike. Loads of Japanese lanterns light the quaint, rough tile-floored dining space where Jasmine serves lunch, afternoon snacks, 4 'til 7 happy hour and dinner on weekdays (dinner only on Saturday and Sunday).
Makimono rolls come in many flavors, and at prices that don't require a call home for funds. Best buy is a special twin-roll sushi option - Philadelphia and Japanese Bagel, maybe? - served with a darned good miso, or a fresh green salad (great ginger dressing), for $7.50 at lunch, $10 at dinner. Many Nigiri pieces, too, for a dollar or two. And 11 app or munchie plates - Sunomono, Shumai Dumplings, Edamame - for an average $5.75.
Service is quick and attentive, but occasionally quirky. As in the time when a bowl of miso came with two spoons for sharing.
