My friends and I love to celebrate occasions (birthdays, new jobs, an A on a hard paper, Friday, etc) in the back room at Jasmine. I would describe the ambiance as NewYork meets Tokyo (more of the former than the latter). The sushi is good and inexpensive (when compared to a traditional sushi bar), if not completely authentic. For example, sometimes my rolls come in less roll, than slightly rolled together. This is usually the case when the bar is swamped (Friday night) and someone has called out. Slight inauthenticities aside, the sushi is always fresh and delicious. My favorite is the Chirashi bowl (assorted sashimi on a bed of sushi rice), which I can usually share with someone and pick a few single Nigri pieces and wind up spending around $10 w/ tip.
If you, or someone in your party is not into sushi, they have great - fully cooked - options. I've tried the wraps, and they are delicious. They have an assortment of sakes, beer (including ichiban), and a full cafe for teas, lattes, etc.
My favorite time to go is Sunday evening, when they have a sushi buffet for $12. Its an assortment of probably 5 sushi rolls (sometimes they experiment) and all you can eat salad and miso soup. Itudakimasu!
