I went to this crappy gym for 5 years on a "month to month" basis. NO CONTRACT. I finally decided to cancel 2 months ago and still haven't managed to make them stop charging me. Here's what's gone down so far:
1. I called the gym to cancel two months ago. The manager asked me why I was quitting and then got really rude and pissed of when I told her. They told me I had to call ABC Financial.
2. ABC asked me a million questions about why I wanted to quit and tried to talk me into just putting the account on hold (for a fee). I refused. They said they would have to call the gym and see if I was eligible to cancel or not. After an hour of being on the phone with them they said that I would have to call the corporate office for an exit interview before I could cancel and gave me the phone number.
3. I called "corporate". It turned out to be the local gym where I got the rude manager bit*h again (Jen). She was an total jerk all over again and said I'd have to come in and sign a form. I asked why she hadn't told me that when I called her the first time. She yelled me and didn't offer an answer.
4. I go by the gym to get the form and I'm told there's no such thing.
5. I call ABC and tell them what happened. They say there is and I have to sign it. They can't send it to me either.
6. I go back to the gym. Someone finally provides me with a form. I sign it and they say that I won't be charged again. I'm cancelled.
7. I get charged again.
8. I call ABC and they say that I haven't cancelled. They supposedly call the gym and the gym says I haven't cancelled. I tell them I'm putting a stop payment on my debit card. They say they'll start sending me paper bills if I do.
9. I call the gym. They say the manager has now signed the form and that I have to come get it and mail it via certified mail to ABC. They won't comment on why ABC told me that they said I had not signed the form.
10. Now I have to go get the form and mail it where it will probably "not show up".
