Tampa's Museum Of Science and Industry is different. We visited a few years ago and it reminded me a lot of similar museums in San Francisco and Philadelphia: lots of hands on experiments and demonstrations for kids, and things from which well-educated adults can even learn a thing or two. I drive by most days and frequently see school buses outside so I'd assume that may be a slight downside, but all in all it was worth the money and we're really looking forward to the Bodies Exhibition later this month.
