I wish I had read these reviews before going to this animal clinic. I used Shelby Animal Clinic years ago (2003-4) when I had a cat and had no problems so that's why I went back. Things have really changed since then. Just having visited Shelby Animal Clinic a few weeks ago with my new puppy I would like to provide comments about my current experience. First of all DO NOT go here if you expect to spend no more than 1-2 hours of your day at the Vet's office. My appointment was at 11 (my son's at 11:30) and I believe we were ready to leave about 2:30 - ridiculous (should have packed a lunch, a drink and my ipad). After the long wait & asking the receptionist what was taking so long, Dr. Z finally came in the room, was apologetic sharing that she was short one key employee that day - she was attentive and spent some time talking with us (most of which would have been more helpful to a first time pet owner though). However, after reading some of the other comments it looks like running behind schedule is the norm for this clinic. I'd like to also add that the whole time we were waiting and then being seen, there was a gentleman waiting patiently in the lobby ONLY to pick his pet up! Also, I'd like to mention that my son paid $325-350 for allergy testing for his 4-yr old dog, was told it would take 10 days for results and they would get back with him. It has now been almost 3 weeks & still no word. His bill was over $700 for this one visit. Now I don't care if you worked for Dr. Z in 1999, if you are a current or past employee or have been going to this clinic all your life, this is poor customer service to say the least. I appreciate the fact that Dr. Z takes time with her patients but, for heaven's sake, don't schedule your patients so closely together if you can't stay on schedule. It sounds like this has been going on for some time now. The longer you make someone wait to see you, the longer they have to fume about your lack of consideration and your time being more important than theirs! Not a good business practice and for that reason, I choose to go elsewhere.
