Ian came to our home, was polite and knowledgeable.
Up front he told me that he would be able to reach the gutters in the front of the house, but that he would let me know if it was too slippery to do the gutters on the back of the house. He went up, examined everything noting areas that I had concerns about, and returned with a complete set of pictures and reasons why I needed a new roof.
Ian proceeded to inform my husband and I that the gutters could not be cleaned because there were gutter guards WHICH IS NOT MENTIONED ANYWHERE ON PAPER OR BY THE COMPANY. We have those cheap guards from Home Depot that just lay on top of the gutter.
So the gutters are still filled, no repairs were performed and I am a bit disappointed. THE FOLLOWING REPRESENTS THE WORK PROMISED BY THE COMPANY FOR MY $99.00.
Here's the Deal:
$99 for a roof maintenance package
Package includes: Caulking and sealing of vents, flashings, & nail holes; cleaning of gutters (up to 100 linear ft.); Tightening of loose shingles; replacement of up to ten shingles; repair of exposed nail heads (nail pops); patching of broken seams; replacement of up to one pipe boot; 21-point attic roof and gutter inspection report along with before and after photos
Checking for interior leaks that may not be noticeable from the exterior of your home
Providing photos of other areas in need of repair and a summary report on any potential plan of action (if needed)
The Real Deal: Don't spend the money to prematurely replace your roof when routine maintenance can extend its life. Call the pros from Arocon Roofing & Construction LLC to help you keep the roof over your head!
I do believe we may in fact need a new roof. I also believe that some flashing repairs around the chimney and another area where two parts of the roof come together could be repaired as the water problems we are having involve these two areas, helping us get through the winter without the financial cost of an entire roof replacement.
The reason I feel most disappointed is because my gutters are still filled with plants and I would not have paid $99.00 for them to be cleaned if the company would have indicated up front, that they don't clean gutters with gutter guards on.
I went ahead and made an appointment for someone to come out and give me an estimate for a new roof the following week. I made the appointment for 9:00 AM so my husband and I could both be there and was called be Arocon the night before to confirm my 12:00 pm appointment......no, it was a 9:00 am appointment.....so that is now rescheduled for next week at 9:00 AM again.
In summary, I think this company does do excellent work as my neighbor across the street had his roof redone and Arocon did a beautiful job. However I am concerned that the company may have one agenda, and that is to have you pay $99.00 for a gutter cleaning, minor repairs and inspection only to receive a $99.00 inspection, pictures, and advise to replace the roof.
I do plan on keeping the appointment with Arocon to further evaluate and advise on the options for treating the roof issues and hope they are amenable to offering a few alternatives to total roof replacement. Perhaps they can also steer me in the right direction on finding a roofer who is not only capable of replacing a roof, but also capable of cleaning the gutters by lifting the gutter guard up and removing the debris.
RESPONSE FROM Arocon Roofing:
