A terrible experience provided by Ray, Ed and Adventure Camper Rental of Jackson, Wyoming and Denver, CO, stranded in Yellowstone for 3 days with no heat and a four year old daughter, read more... I waited over thirty minutes for Ray (the owner) to pick me up at our hotel. The location is 20 minutes outside of Jackson (not close at all from what we were told). We reviewed the camper. Looked fine, until Ray was unable to hitch the camper to our rental vehicle and had to jerry-rig the hitch. Our drive to Yellowstone was fine and the setup of the camper was easy. First night (Tuesday) went well. Furnace quite loud, but at least it produced heat. Second night (Wednesday), my wife and I smelled smoke and the furnance failed to light. This was around midnight. Keep in mind, we have a four year old child with us. By the morning we are frozen (rain, snow, hail, and temps in the 20's). I gather all the quarters we have to call Ray's emergency phone, because there is no cell phone reception in Yellowstone, only pay phones. Why not have an 800 number for emergencies? Ray tells me the battery is low and needs to be charged for 2-3 hours and the furnance will work. We followed his insturctions, including replacing a blown fuse. Still no heat. We decide to enjoy our day at Yellowstone. I called Adventure Camper several times only to receive the same advice, which I clearly stated has not worked. I asked if they would refund some of our money so we could book a hotel. A simple "NO" was recieved until they could examine the camper. Essentially telling us to freeze another night with our child, and then we will see what we can do. Our last night (Thursday), we used the cooking range to warm the cabin. Not only dangerous due the fumes, buy it exhausted the propane. So we had no heat in the morning to cook or warm. I call again Friday morning to ask if we return the camper early, do we still need to pay for the last day of our rental. Another, "NO, we do not prorate." Even though we have had no heat for 3 days. Unbelivable. Thanks Ed and Ray. We return to Jackson. The problem is confirmed after several questions that inferred we were morons and did not know what we were doing. Ray said he would refund some of our money (still charged us for the car), but complained after I asked for a refund confirmation before we left Jackson. "Is my word not good enough," he said. HA! Ray sent us to Yellowstone with no heat and no service for 3 days. What a joke. I would not trust Ray, Ed or Adventure Camper with anything at this point. An awful experience caused by a terribly operated company. FYI, I passed several other camper companies along the road to Adventure Camper, so I would recommend them site unseen before using Ray's abortion of a business. Recommendations Actually trust the customer when they tell them repeatedly their equipment has failed. Do not dismiss custumers and ignore their requests. Have a 800 number for emergencies, rather than asking the customer to pump quarters into a pay phone. Give customers resonable expections as to equipment limitations. Don't cop an attitude when a customer requests proof of a refund. Don't threaten additional charges for the failure of their equipment. Be on time when you agree to pick up customers. Offer to put customers into a hotel, rather than suggesting they freeze in Yellowstone. Ray, Ed and the rest of them have no clue how to run a business properly. more
