Editorial review from Citysearch 9/9/2013

We signed our contract with Oceanic Pool on November 16th 2012. We paid our 10% deposit in order to start the Job that same day. We initially chose this company because of their professionalism and their very good reviews on Angie's List. Pedro the sales rep was very knowledgeable, nice, friendly and was very proactive to answer our needs, also they seemed to have some very competitive price. But everything turned into a nightmare. So again I repeat we signed and paid our contract November 16th 2012. On December 17th 2012 they completed the plans (I would say very basic blueprints) that they were going to be submitted to the city of Miami, and we approved them on the spot the same day. The plans were only submitted on January 14th 2013 (of course the person in charge of the construction told us that they were submitted to the city at the end of December, but they thought I was stupid enough to believe their lies when nowadays everything is public and accessible on-line through Miami Dade’s building website). Then 10 days after submitting the plan to the city, 2 items were rejected (tree permit and environmental permit). They told me it was normal, it happens once in a while, and that they will correct it right away: it took them 1 month and a half to send the correction to the departments concerned (of course they lied to me again by saying that was done days after the original rejection). And guess what march 5th the city rejected again the application. Oceanic pool is not honest at all. \r After going to the city myself, calling the company numerous times and threatened to leave bad feedback online the plan were finally approved. \r The construction began 2 weeks later and I was at first amazed and happy for the first month as everything was done pretty fast and smoothly. But after a month Oceanic pool stopped everything, I had to beg them to install the copying, piping, electrical, pavers and to pass the city inspection. It took them 2 extra months to finish something that could have been done in 10 days. On top of that they were requesting payment for items not even finished.\r Moreover they did many thing improperly: 12v pool light plugged in 120V, electrical panel connected improperly, pump and jandy valve installed improperly, PDA from jandy as well, and the cherry on the cake: I had to do a few things myself because Oceanic pool did not or was not unable to do it: Pouring concrete on the electrical pole holder, remove roots from a tree that they cut down. Their crew was using my tools that were stored in my garage. I had to harass them to correct the water line that was not straight at all and to remove the junk they left in my yard (it was dangerous and rats and snakes started to invade my backyard). Bottom line it was a huge mess but they finished the pool and the plaster was applied after more than a hundred phone call and emails in June 18th 2013. \r Today, September 9th 2013, they still have a last payment remaining to collect but Oceanic pool is not answering or reacting. The pool permits are still open and 2 out of 3 city inspections were declined (electrical and piping) because a few things are not up to the city code. I gave them today a last warning before I put the case in litigation as I am the one that will have to pay the city fine and hire a new contractor to correct their work and pass the final inspection to close the permit.\r Also go to the Miami Dade clerk website and you will find out that this company faced many Federal government IRS liens and many lawsuits versus the state of Florida. This company might have been serious in the past, but I feel that it is on the hedge of collapse. I would never recommend this company to anybody. This company might be bankrupt in a very close future.\r more
