Editorial review from Citysearch 8/14/2013

The Davidorfs (both father and son) are the worst (just can't bring myself to call them doctors) I've ever encountered. I believe they are just chasing after money and they couldn't care less about their patients. \r \r Several years ago Jonathan Davidorf performed cataract surgery on me. He insisted on using a standard IOL. Prior to the surgery, he supplied various reasons why multifocal lenses are bad overall, and specially inappropriate for me. During my consultation, he was fully aware of my eye muscle (movement) problems which make use of reading glasses extremely difficult for me. I also explained that I am a software engineer by profession, and I spend 8-14 hours a day working on computer screens. Despite these facts, Davidorf remained insistent on using a standard IOL. He even explicitly reassured me that with a standard IOL I will not need glasses for my work. \r \r After my surgery I was essentially unable to work because of my vision. During my follow up visits, Davidorf told me my vision was normal for a standard IOL. It was as if he had not been in the room when we discussed my difficulties with reading glasses and the fact that I spend long hours working on computer screens. \r \r About a year later, I had my second cataract surgery at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute. Although I had a standard IOL in my right eye, Dr. Joseph Miller at UCLA agreed that a multifocal lens is more appropriate in my case--as it would have been for my other eye. Keep in mind that ophthalmologist almost always prefer to use the same lens in both eyes. I can say without reservation that my multifocal IOL is a godsend. \r \r Few weeks ago, I went back to Davidorf's office (because he is located less than a mile from my house) for a checkup. After looking at my chart, Jonathan Davidorf started lecturing me about the inappropriateness of using the multifocal IOL in my left eye. I explained how the multifocal lens has once again restored my ability to work and function normally. I also told him that would not hesitate one second if I could replace the standard IOL that he used. \r \r Despite my firsthand experience, Davidorf maintained his position about the inappropriateness of the multifocal IOL. His irrational response to the facts makes me believe that he's getting kickbacks from the IOL manufacturers.\r \r I would not use this provider for even the simplest annual eye exam. more
