When I was admitted to the facility in 2012, I was inundated with myriad physical disabilities. I was admitted here after a three month stint at Allegheny General Hospital. While at the hospital for respiratory failure and a stroke, I acquired many bedsores and was administered a tracheotomy to aide my breathing. I was out of shape and weighed in at over 600 pounds when I arrived. \r
After I left Allegheny General, I decided to come to Consulate because I heard many good things about the therapy department. Because I was so overweight and the stroke, I could not even feed myself. I needed total care; I couldn't even put my hand behind my head, let alone use the bathroom or dress myself. I had a hard time sitting up in a bed or wheelchair. \r
I was always in pain, and my knees were killing me. Since I have been at Consulate, I have lost 130 pounds and have been much more active. The wound care here have cleaned up my bedsores, my trach was removed, and I exercise with the wonderful Therapy staff. Now I can walk where I want to go, and am happier than I have been for a long time. Without the ladies in therapy at Consulate, I couldn't have been so successful. The therapy team put emphasis on my specific problems, and they are great motivators. I like them all and will miss everyone when I go home.
