I walked into Carmax on 1/1/11. My parents and I went into the dealership expecting to look at a Jeep Compass and purchase it the following day if we liked the car. The sales person Wm. Stacey Butts Senior Sales Consultant then put pressure on us to purchase the car on that day 1/1/11. We did not want to buy the car on that day because we would have to pay personal property tax for the year of 2011. The sales person then went and confirmed with his legal team that we would not have to pay taxes on the car if we purchased on 1/1/11. Throughout the sales process about 5 people told us that we would not have to pay personal property taxes - knowing we lived in Jackson County MO - saying they know Missouri laws since they are so close to the state line. We then believed they knew what they were talking about and we purchased the car on 1/1/11. We also had them handle getting my car tags. Then this year after still not receiving a tax bill, I went to the Jackson County Courthouse and they did charge me for 2011 personal property tax and late charges in the amount of $592. For some reason my car was not put into the system and that was another thing that I paid for that Carmax failed me on. Obviously, Carmax and its consultants don't care about the customer and only care about making sales by lying to customers. I would not recommend Carmax to anyone and feel extremely deceived.
