Most other movers base their estimate on weight. San Jose Movers does it based on volume - how much truck space it takes up. Then they give you a cost for your move along with an electronic, detailed inventory list that only will change if you significantly add or remove items. I easily communicated with them several times in the week up to the move to update my inventory and it was quickly taken care of and updated online each time. My cost to move went down in fact as I decided not to take a few big things at the last second. Otherwise, your ""estimate"" is guaranteed and if a few extra boxes show up at the end it's no big deal.\r

Compare this to the other supposed well regarded traditional movers who gave me a PDF of a handwritten scrawl of our inventory on a reprinted form... and who also estimated over $1500 more in cost to move our items. Plus, there was no knowing if they had estimated wrong and once they weigh the truck we would have been out even more money. Once they have your stuff on the truck you are at their mercy for added cost.\r
