I love this place. We got our dog here and I wouldn't go anywhere else. This is an older, underfunded county shelter that does as much as it possibly can with the resources they have available. They can't afford to do a lot of flashy PR and spend a ton of money on ads like some of the private shelters in this area. What money and time they do have is focused on the animals and on doing investigations. \r

They take in all the animals that the ""no kill"" shelters turn away. (Ever wonder what ""no kill"" shelters do with really scary, aggressive animals? Well, they just don't accept them so they don't have to worry about it.) \r

The county shelters are the ones who are left to figure out what to do with all the truly unwanted animals- the hundreds of feral cats, the hundreds of Pitbulls, the elderly and sick animals, the skittish ones. They take in all of Portland's stray and lost animals. You might not hear a lot about them, but they do a TON in the community. Personally, I think they do an amazing job.
