Bring your check book! Last fall I took my husband to the ER with stomach pains and uncontrollable vomiting. While being treated with anti-nausea medicine and pain killers, someone from the hospital staff came into the room asking how he would like to pay our insurance co-pay. I was appalled that any hospital would attempt to get a payment out of someone medically not able to make informed decisions. I really hope that practice doesn't go on when people are alone in the ER and don't have anyone there to deal with aggressive billing.\r

As a side note, after a follow-up surgery, the hospital entered our address incorrectly and sent two bills to the wrong address. The 2nd was after they called my husband and he asked to confirm if the address was correct. (it wasn't).
