Our first night in Alaska I was looking for seafood, but as our shuttle dropped us off in the city of Fairbanks, my seafood fantasies fizzled. I imagined row upon row of crab shacks and lobsters bakes but this is not the case. After a quick walk around a pretty drab town we found Gambardella's Pasta Bella, and our stomachs decided for us. Although a bit warm (no air conditioning) we were seated outside in a nice patio. The wine list is good and affordable, nice salad, good lasagna BUT....the seafood chowder is still one of the best things I have ever treated my taste buds to. Thick and cheesy? I was tempted to cancel my entree and order a larger bowl (in hind site I should have!) Or maybe pour it over a nice plate of pasta! I even went on line to try and find the recipe to no avail (my scale is happy). Fairbanks for Italian...who would have thought?
