I checked myself in February because I was having a lot of really negative thoughts and thoought about killing myself. I have a long history of depression and after the death of my mom, it all just came to a head. I was in a place like this in Nebraska 20 years ago so I knew what to expect. But my expectations were wrong - Millwood has the kindest, nicest, most caring staff. I really felt they cared about me as an individual. Dr. Mehta is wonderful - she takes the time to listen to you and ask you questions. She prescribed a combination of medications that took the edge off my negative feelings but didn't leave me feeling numb or drugged up. The group therapy was good. We had them 2 or 3 times a day. Some people just sat around, like they were doing time and not particpating. But me and some others tried to make the most of them and I found them to be helpful. The nurses and aides are the hardest working people there. They give you time and attention, answer your questions. Can't say enough about them! One of the best lessons was that my time at Millwood was just the beginning. They made me an appointment with psychiatrist so I didn't have to worry about that. I went to the outpatient program located next door to the hospital for 4 weeks. They were good. I'll always struggle with my disease. But its comforting to know they are there if I need them again. I would definately recommend Millwood to anyone needing help.
