I took my dog, Sandy, into Valley Animal Hospital because she had not been using her right hind leg for several days. I was informed that she needed an x-ray and to return the next day because sedation would be required in order to perform the x-ray (x-ray $140.00 + sedation $65.00 + office visit $40.00 + anti-inflammatory injection $38.00 + prescription $19.00). I did return for the x-ray and was asked to drop my dog off. I requested to see the kennel where she would have to stay and with great reluctance I was shown a drafty cage where she would stay. I noticed dirty rags in a corner and there were several dogs that were scared and barking. They were separated by a door; however the window to the door was broken. It did not smell clean either (I should have left then and there). When I returned to pick my dog up at 4:10 PM I was informed that my dog had a ruptured ACL in her knee that would require surgery. The doctor explained there are two procedures that can be used, and quickly described them. When I inquired as to the price of these procedures he left the room. I thought he would be returning, but he never did. I noticed the time was after 5:00. Finally someone came and said the price would be $1950.00 or $3500.00 depending upon the procedure used. I asked for a written estimate. After another long wait I walked out to the desk to find out what the status was. The manager was eating something at the desk. When he finished eating he began to work on my estimate. it was 5:30. After he gave me the estimate, and charged me for the days visit, he said he would get my dog. I waited another 20 minutes and had finally had enough. By the time I finally got my dog it was 5:50. The next day I wanted to check with other vets regarding this surgery and pricing. Thank goodness I did! I found Dr. Pitt at Mid Valley Animal Hospital in Reseda. He did a simple ortho exam (no x-ray, no sedation) to confirm the diagnosis, and recommended the TPOL surgery ($3500.00 at Valley) The price he quoted was about $1000.00 less expensive and included any follow up x-rays and exams! The hospital is clean and the staff is attentive and caring. Valley Animal Hospital is a RIP-OFF! The staff are rude and arrogant. I find it very unprofessional to be eating at the desk too! My dog, Sandy had her surgery and is recovering well! I am sorry my dog had to go through all of this, but thankful I DID NOT USE Valley Animal Hospital!!!!! more
