My elderly mother was taken by ambulance to SS Em and I followed an hour later... I found her alone in a bed with IV needles without the tubes... I answered questions for her and then asked for help when she started tearing out her tubes and IVs and catheter and the NURSE refused to do anything... She was across from me looking at a magazine and could see right into the makeshift room...
She told me a request had been made to get my mother a sitter AFTER i went up to her and was FORCED to interrupt her chat with another nurse about clothes in a magazine... I told her she was ripping out her tubes and she deliberately and casually slowly walked over and took out the hanging needle and dabbed at the blood and then went back..
Mother continued to get more agitated and tried to rip out her catheter by stgarting with the white tape on her thigh ... I yelled out and she looked the other way more than once... She was very good at looking past my shoulder when I walked up to her at the nurse station.... she then sent the DOCTOR----- to ASK ME aggressively what my problem was... I asked that my mother be treated by someone since the nurse had more important things to do like act like a gang leader with threatening 'I DARE YOU' look on her face...
Myu mother was in emergency for 3 THREE DAYS--- witha catheter in her (dr said someone forgot to take it out)... She tore at her tubes more than once and when I came back the next day she had a green swollen hand that looked like it was suffering from gangreen...
A case manager told me my moher tore at her tubes MANY times.. This statement was made after said NURSE (named Julie) told me my mother gently tugged at a tube and required sedation... I waited to take mother homes (as I was told by the doc) the nite before and then waS told she would stay and not told why... I was there iwht her for over 3 1/2 hours and by 3:L30 asked if she was EVER going to get a meal like LUNCH and they said it was on its way... By 4:20 asked again and was told someone called down for lunch for my mother and it would take another 45 min---
I then emplored JULIE to put my mother down on a list of itnerested parties for DINNER and I want to sign it-- She that was not necessary--- she would take care of it--------
