My elderly mother was taken by ambulance to SS Em and I followed an hour later... I found her alone in a bed with IV needles without the tubes... I answered questions for her and then asked for help when she started tearing out her tubes and IVs and catheter and the NURSE refused to do anything... She was across from me looking at a magazine and could see right into the makeshift room... She told me a request had been made to get my mother a sitter AFTER i went up to her and was FORCED to interrupt her chat with another nurse about clothes in a magazine... I told her she was ripping out her tubes and she deliberately and casually slowly walked over and took out the hanging needle and dabbed at the blood and then went back.. Mother continued to get more agitated and tried to rip out her catheter by stgarting with the white tape on her thigh ... I yelled out and she looked the other way more than once... She was very good at looking past my shoulder when I walked up to her at the nurse station.... she then sent the DOCTOR----- to ASK ME aggressively what my problem was... I asked that my mother be treated by someone since the nurse had more important things to do like act like a gang leader with threatening 'I DARE YOU' look on her face... Myu mother was in emergency for 3 THREE DAYS--- witha catheter in her (dr said someone forgot to take it out)... She tore at her tubes more than once and when I came back the next day she had a green swollen hand that looked like it was suffering from gangreen... A case manager told me my moher tore at her tubes MANY times.. This statement was made after said NURSE (named Julie) told me my mother gently tugged at a tube and required sedation... I waited to take mother homes (as I was told by the doc) the nite before and then waS told she would stay and not told why... I was there iwht her for over 3 1/2 hours and by 3:L30 asked if she was EVER going to get a meal like LUNCH and they said it was on its way... By 4:20 asked again and was told someone called down for lunch for my mother and it would take another 45 min--- I then emplored JULIE to put my mother down on a list of itnerested parties for DINNER and I want to sign it-- She that was not necessary--- she would take care of it-------- I have never seen anythingh so pedestrian in my life--- the more

Arrived at 10pm and sat in the waiting room until 2am when I was finally brought back to a room, I waiting until 5am until I was seen by a Dr. Nurses were rude to me and other patients when asked about the wait time. I had a clear view of the nurses station where the nurses sat and gossiped, complained about patients, ate food, and sent the NA to do their work. LAZY people. I love this hospital in all other aspects but their ER is pathetic! more

I went to the ER last week for chest and stomach pain, vomiting and just not feeling well at all. I was placed in a room right away but the nurse did not come back at all. After about two hours I asked what is going on and how long. I was rudely told that it would be soon and that I will just have to wait! I was shock by the response so I sat and waited for another 20 minutes. Despite my pain and nausea I gathered my things and left. The nurse at the desk ask where I was going so I told her that I am leaving and she did not hesitate to say ""I will show you the exit door"". I was appalled and pissed. I yelled back that she didn't want to treat me but have enough time to show me to the door. I then looked around and realize that I was the only African America as she pointed towards the doors. Went to front desk and one of the nurses told me to go back and wait. I told her after what happened back there I do not trust them to prescribe me medication nor do I want to stay at that hospital. Reminded them that if anything happens to me during my travel that they are responsible. Even at that they did not hesitate to release me. I cannot comprehend the unprofessionalism from these people. They have no remorse for what happened even after I called the next day to complain of what happened. This is the worst hospital and worst experience that I have ever had and felt. I felt belittled, shocked, appalled, dirty like I did something wrong and sad and cried on my way home because of their treatment. Being a long time south shore resident I can tell you South Shore Hospital is HORRIBLE! My wife took our 2 year ago to the emergency room. He was very dehydrated and in serious condition. The staff left them sitting there for over 6 hours while they laughed, drank coffee and waited the clock for there shift to end. Pros: location Cons: staff more
