Currently, my father is a resident at Bethesda Gardens Assisted Living. My sister and I filed for co-guardianship over him and took him out of the nursing home he was in and moved him to Bethesda. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's and was having a lot of difficulty at the nursing home he was in. One of my stipulations of being a co-guardian was that he needed to be moved to a better assisted living place. Everyone agreed and we found Bethesda after a lot of searching.
At first, my father wasn't very happy with the move, but even after two weeks he was 100 percent better! He really started to come out of his shell. He has gotten to know other people and the staff is beyond excellent with him. He has Crone's Disease too, and sometimes there are accidents that need to be cleaned up, and the staff is quick and don't hesitate to take care of things like that. They are so professional and very patient with him. He really likes living there now!
My sister and I really feel like we did a good thing by moving him there. He's happy now. They take great care of him there. They play games and do therapy for their residents. Our father really likes the therapy sessions. They also take them on different outings, like out to lunch and to their doctor appointments, which is great for us since we both work full-time jobs.
We go there every Sunday to have dinner with him and to prepare his weekly medications for him, and it's great to see that he is thriving. With him there, I don't have to worry. We've recommended Bethesda Gardens to many people. This would be the place of my choice if I were in his shoes.
