I previously took my 1996 Ford Ranger to another auto shop I trusted in a different town, but they (in my opinion) misdiagnosed the stalling issue, did not want to remove the starter bolts, and still charged me almost $200 for installation of a temperature sensor. The truck continued to stall. I looked up auto repair shops on CSAA (AAA) web site and found Garden Highway Auto Clinic. I then took the truck to Garden Highway Auto Clinic. 1. They replaced the starter which required removing bolts in very difficult positions. The bolts were the wrong type, so they froze (I broke one trying to remove it.) 2. The Ranger had to be towed because the engine would stall and not start for a long time. (It was safe there overnight.) This was a lesson because online resources would have me replacing the fuel filter or fuel pump. Their diagnosis had them start with the basics, so it saved a lot of time.
