See for yourself--GREAT PLACE FOR SENIORS! 4/18/2011

My mother, aged 90 and independent, has been at the Village for 5 years and we both cannot be happier! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about working with elderly folks with their unique issues. They respond to my mother like family, look her in the eye and call her by name, joke around with her, and ask for her opinions. \r \r There are so many activities scheduled that she sometimes can't choose. They have staff programs (totally funny and much appreciated by the residents), theme days, holiday dress-up or parties, afternoon teas with refreshments (chocolate swans filled with chocolate mousse!), musical programs, and visits by local performers and chorales, movies with popcorn, excursions by van or car, shopping excursions--this sounds upscale to me. They have kitchen tours (spotless, says Mom) and cooking classes and wine tastings. The residents themselves have activities they schedule, musical groups, bridge groups, craft groups, and so on.\r \r She especially likes the food. I join her for meals often, so I don't know WHERE the review already posted on this site CAME from! Disgruntled employee?? Food is varied, with an impressive, restaurant-like menu plus two daily specials, homemade soups, exotic entrees with spices designed to perk up elderly appetites as well as provide variety. (A recent meal included cream of artichoke soup, fresh melon, and marinated duck!) Desserts are delicious, portions large, and there are always rich ice creams as an option, plus rootbeer floats to die for. The brunches are just grand and are special affairs, with omelets made to order, meats carved at the table, and Bananas Foster on hoidays. All the food servers have on hairnets or toques and latex gloves. The General Store has ice cream and other snacks, plus necessities for the home. My mother can go to meals anytime between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM and she loves the flexibility. \r \r My advice to anyone considering the Village: Go and visit. They will comp you a few meals. Ask to see the kitchen. See how staff treats residents, how solicitous they are, how much fun they have with the patrons. Tour the apartments. Mom has TWO master suites, two baths (a tub was a must for her, and the Village customized it to her needs before she moved in), two balconies, and a pantry, plus a large storage room intended as a laundry room, in addition to her living room and kitchen area. Laundry facilities are free down the hall in the laundry room. Her room is cleaned once a week efficiently, and there is a beauty shop on site If exercise facilities and a pool are required, they have them, with personalized programs for each resident. There is a Village flower garden and fish pond, tended by staff and a few residents.\r \r You have options in Colorado Springs with many senior-living facilities. We chose the Village up on the Mesa, with killer views, for Mom, and I feel confidant when I go home that she is in the best hands possible. Check it out.\r \r more
