Our kitchen was every bit the quintessential galley model from the 1980s?skinny, appliance doors bumping cabinet doors, and finished with wood laminate running across the countertops, backsplash, and even surrounding the yellow-plastic-encased fluorescent light fixture. The builder even added a wall to divide it from the living and formal dining area, complete with a tiny square window so the tired cook would watch the 5 o?clock news while she heated up TV dinners in her faux wood prison. Obviously, I had major issues with my kitchen.
