First off, to the person who has had sushi in California and Texas... congratulations, you've been to TWO states out of FIFTY, on ONE continent out of SEVEN on the entire planet... and neither of those places are really hubs for sushi lovers. They aren't mecca, they are not the center of the sushi universe, you are not God of Sushi. Self righteousness never goes well with cuisine, just throwing that out there. Anyway!
I've been going to Sake Cafe since they first opened their doors. The staff has always been beyond courteous and respectful, and always willing to cater to our wishes. The portions have always been enough- not too much and never too small. Maybe some people should look into the idea of portion control? Binging on sushi is a great dream, and something I wish I could constantly do- but I would rather have small portions of excellent sushi rather than large, nasty, rotten portions of HEB sushi. Just sayin.
The prices are beyond reasonable, especially if you are getting more than just sushi. Some of my favorites are their lunch specials, including Combo Yakisoba, which has everything necessary for a delicious meal. For dinner, I have usually stuck to my usual Katsu Don- the fried egg and pork deliciousness in a perfect bowl. Roll-wise, I prefer the dragon, something I get with every meal. Another one of my favorites is the soft shell crab, which, when ordered with the dragon roll, is enough for a full meal and sometimes there is even enough left over to take home.
Love you, Sake. Forever my favorite.
