Editorial review from Citysearch 9/12/2012

This has been our favority sushi place for years! Sit at the sushi bar and watch the chefs work their magic. Great portions of the freshest fish, and the casual atmosphere is much more comfortable than other nearby sushi restaurants. The lunchtime ""bento"" box is a great deal!! more

Horrible Customer Service 1/13/2012

If I could give it a lower rating I would. Ordered for delivery, they told me it would take 30 minutes after 45 minutes I called back to find out they already thought it was delivered. Another 20 minutes went by and after I told them I would not pay for the food due to the fact that 1. it would be cold and 2. I waited over an hour for it, the delivery guy finally came to my door I told him I wasn't paying for it, he called his boss and she, instead of leaving the cold food, told me if I don't pay that they were taking the food with them. Absolutely horrific service. I have never had service this bad EVER. more

Top Notch Sushi 12/30/2011

My husband and I are big ""sushi snobs"" lol He is from Vancouver where some of the finest sushi can be had at a great price. He was sold the instant he tasted their sashimi. I am not as well versed as he is, but I know what I like. Their service is always professional and lighthearted. We like to ask the chef to surprise us with a specialty and it has always been fabulous. All in all, I would recommend this quaint, neat little place to anybody who is new to sushi and to those who are sushi lovers. more

The best. 12/14/2011

First off, to the person who has had sushi in California and Texas... congratulations, you've been to TWO states out of FIFTY, on ONE continent out of SEVEN on the entire planet... and neither of those places are really hubs for sushi lovers. They aren't mecca, they are not the center of the sushi universe, you are not God of Sushi. Self righteousness never goes well with cuisine, just throwing that out there. Anyway! I've been going to Sake Cafe since they first opened their doors. The staff has always been beyond courteous and respectful, and always willing to cater to our wishes. The portions have always been enough- not too much and never too small. Maybe some people should look into the idea of portion control? Binging on sushi is a great dream, and something I wish I could constantly do- but I would rather have small portions of excellent sushi rather than large, nasty, rotten portions of HEB sushi. Just sayin. The prices are beyond reasonable, especially if you are getting more than just sushi. Some of my favorites are their lunch specials, including Combo Yakisoba, which has everything necessary for a delicious meal. For dinner, I have usually stuck to my usual Katsu Don- the fried egg and pork deliciousness in a perfect bowl. Roll-wise, I prefer the dragon, something I get with every meal. Another one of my favorites is the soft shell crab, which, when ordered with the dragon roll, is enough for a full meal and sometimes there is even enough left over to take home. Love you, Sake. Forever my favorite. more

Best sushi for the price 12/2/2011

Best Sushi Dive in San Antonio 8/25/2011

This place is so awesome.from the servers to the lunch bento boxes to the fresh sushi! They are always friendly and a lot of the employees have been working there for a long time. The miso soup is even delicious! more

Not worth the time or the money! 11/27/2010

As most of these reviews state, the prices are reasonable and the fish is top quality. HOWEVER, the pieces of fish that you get are the smallest that I have ever seen and I have been a sushi fan for almost 20 years. I have eaten sushi in CA and in TX. Here in Texas I have eaten sushi in Dallas, Irving, Arlington, North Richland Hills, San Antonio, Houston, and Corpus Christi. Most of the cities here in Texas I have eaten in multiple places in each city. I still have NEVER seen such small pieces of fish on the sushi. I wouldn't recommend Sake Cafe to anybody! more

Great Sushi - Great Price 4/11/2009

The sushi is served very beautifully. Always fresh and plentiful. Their lunch specials are fantastic! You could go and spend big bucks at other places but you'll have wasted your money when you could have come here. If you're the type to take someone's advice, then listen to me now and do yourself a favor. Let's keep these people in business; they deserve to stick around! Pros: Seriously great sushi at an unbeatable price. Cons: Too much construction at the intersection. more

Excellent sushi at a great price 11/13/2008

I just moved to the area and had been looking high and low for some good sushi. The more popular places in and around Stone Oak are far too overpriced for me to eat my sushi regularly so I did an online search and found out about Sake Cafe. The prices are definitely affordable, especially for what you get, and the service is always outstanding with the smiling staff to boot. I go there frequently and have never had a bad experience. The food is always fresh and freshly made, and presented well. I've never eaten in; I always take my food to-go and the order is never wrong. With restaurants closing left and right, it's nice to keep our favorites alive so we can continue to enjoy the food they offer. Please try this place out and let's keep them in business. Pros: Friendly staff who remember you when you walk in the door. Fresh sushi. Affordable. Cons: The traffic at Blanco and Huebner is atrocious! Go before rush-hour starts or you'll be sorry. more

the best sushi 12/15/2007

I love this place. It's a very quiet, simple, and elegant establishment. If you go during lunch they have delicious bento boxes that are sure to fill you up and cost less than $10. They also have regular sushi rolls and hand rolls. My favorites are the Delicato roll and the Alamo roll. Sushi doesn't come cheap but this place does not overcharge like Sushi Zushi. Pros: all aspects are positive Cons: nothing was bad! more

Great prices, service, and food 10/6/2007

This place was really a nice surprise. For one thing, the prices were really reasonable--even for the sushi. Everything we ordered tasted really good--sushi, udon, katsu. Our waitress was really friendly and on top of things. The food came out fast and it was all delicious. It was a great meal out and we will definitely be going back! Pros: Service, food, prices, decor Cons: Nothing I can think of! more

Excellent sushi, great prices 10/6/2007

I love sushi but not the prices. At Sake Cafe, you will find really great quality sushi at really good prices. They have a happy hour Monday thru Saturday from 3-5p where the prices are even better. Try it, you won't be disappointed. The service is really good and fast also. Enjoy! more

BEST SUSHI FOR A SMALL WALLET!!!!!!!!!!! 3/30/2007

I've been to a lot of sushi joints within the San Antonio district. However, upon word of mouth, a friend of mind mention a little new sushi place on Blanco Rd. So on Friday I took a stroll down Blanco Rd. with my girlfriend. Tucked away in a cozy little plaza was Sake Cafe. When walking inside, the atmosphere was close to P.F. Changs, however, nothing compared to the price. The lunch specials were just awesome for any college student. From $6-$8 you got sushi, tempura, miso soup, and a japanese style salad. And you didn't just get 3 or for sushi, we are talking about 12 pieces of sushi, and 3 tempura cakes and vegetable. The Miso soup was fantastic as well. There were so many sushi combinations to choose from I got two combos while I was there, hehe. Anyway, if you're a big sushi lover, you got to go to sake cafe for the price, the excellent service, and the great atmosphere it has to offer. TWO FORKS WAY UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Great sushi for such little price, it's like happy hour everyday! Cons: Wish there were more Sake cafes more

#1 SUSHI EVER 2/8/2007

Fabulous creations, fresh fish, modern ambiance. Favorite sushi from Austin to San Antonio. I take all my friends there. Very friendly wait staff. Inexpensive-high quality and reasonable prices. EAT HERE! Pros: Every aspect has been perfected from the food to the service to the Miso soup. more

Good food, good prices 12/20/2006

Visiting the city for a month, I went to many sushi restaurants. This restaurant is located in the burgeoning neighborhood off the outer loop of San Antonio. The restaurant is clean, the waitstaff was pleasant. The sushi rolls are unique, with a good variety from which to choose. Pay particular attention to any ""specials"" for the night, as they offer even more great options. Overall, the sushi was great, the prices great, and the overall experience good. I would go back, although it might not be my first choice. Pros: Sushi selection, price more
