When we first drove into River Retreat, it was spring. I let the season and the weather cloud my judgement. You can judge the whole campground by the entrance. The sign is old and faded. Letters are falling off or missing. You pull in and there are potholes large and deep enough to cause a small car to bottom out. I should have turned around right there. If you can't even present a welcoming and well kept entrance, then you can imagine what the rest of the campground is like.
The place is dirty an unkempt. The toilet house was out of hand sanitizer the ENTIRE season, because it was on ""back order"". Well, go buy the huge jugs at Sam's Club and stick it on a folding table by the door. There are junked golf carts and lawn mowers just sitting in the middle of camp across from the ""play ground"".
It is a shame, because the place has potential. It just isn't going to reach it under current management not with the way the handle the little or BIG things.
