We played late October so we weren't expecting much as the other courses we recently played clearly had winter conditions. Fossil Trace was in summer shape, great greens, faster than we expected w/alot of movement which made them difficult for us.
The course is great, different types of holes, different looks and a different feel than most but ALL of these added up to a great day for us. You can score if you play smart and look where you could miss and be OK. The problem is ego which takes over giving you the nudge to want to try to pull the shot off. If you do, you are sitting pretty w/eagle or birdie try. If you don't, and we didn't more than we did, you fire a big score.
Our friends recommended the Fossil Burger so 2 of us tried it. Ridiculously good but keep it in the wrapper as they tell you to or it is a challenge to eat as it is too full of everything - it can be a mess but oh so awesome. Eat on the deck and bet on the groups hitting into 18 which is 100ft below you - the view is worth it alone.
Now our ""go to"" course when we want something more than a simple walk in the park - FT is far more than that in our opinion.
