Different is Great 10/30/2011

We played late October so we weren't expecting much as the other courses we recently played clearly had winter conditions. Fossil Trace was in summer shape, great greens, faster than we expected w/alot of movement which made them difficult for us. The course is great, different types of holes, different looks and a different feel than most but ALL of these added up to a great day for us. You can score if you play smart and look where you could miss and be OK. The problem is ego which takes over giving you the nudge to want to try to pull the shot off. If you do, you are sitting pretty w/eagle or birdie try. If you don't, and we didn't more than we did, you fire a big score. Our friends recommended the Fossil Burger so 2 of us tried it. Ridiculously good but keep it in the wrapper as they tell you to or it is a challenge to eat as it is too full of everything - it can be a mess but oh so awesome. Eat on the deck and bet on the groups hitting into 18 which is 100ft below you - the view is worth it alone. Now our ""go to"" course when we want something more than a simple walk in the park - FT is far more than that in our opinion. more

Did you happen to notice the monitor posted at the tee box? This is in place so that individuals such as your self do not ""accidently"" drove into a group on the green. BTW did you apologize for hitting into them??? My guess is NOT.\r One more fact for you: Cherry Hills has a 330 yard par 4 - Augusta National has a 350 yard par 4, all set up for the best players in the world. They do not consider them ridiculously short. Perhaps your bitterness is misplaced; you are responsible for your score not the golf course. Pros: extremely friendly staff, GPS carts, great conditions Cons: so popular difficult to secure a tee time more

Poorly Managed 1/2/2008

I drove the green on the pathetically short hole 2. The fairway was clear, but evidently there were golfers on the green. They interfered with my ball and moved it. I asked for a refund after they admited to the marshal that they moved my ball and were still not penalized. No satisfaction. THERE ARE NO RULES AT FOSSIL TRACE. Feel free to go shirtless and drive your carts on the green! Pros: Close to the Coors Brewery Cons: Don't respect or honor the rules of the game more

A Must Play in Colorado 1/23/2007

We had heard all the hype about this golf course - it had won almost every award possible but we were still sceptical. Finally made a tee time to check it out and we were blown away - it exceeded the hype!\r \r Yes, there are a couple holes that some might call ""quirky"" or ""gimicky"" but the chimney on the lower level of #1 fairway doesn't come into play unless you hack one. The stones and stone walls on #12 must be played around but don't affect good shots. If you are looking for a traditional American layout with a gentle dogleg left/right and limited character - this isn't it. However, if you have played across the pond in England/Ireland/Scotland where golf began and enjoyed those courses - you'll love Fossil Trace.\r \r The course is mostly about risk/reward - you can drive #2 and #10 but if you don't pull off the shot, you're in for double or worse. Par 5s can be reached but miss the approach and another big #. You can play safe all day and probably score relatively well but what is the fun of that. Be as agressive as you like but if you are not accurate, bring a lot of eggs, you'll need them!\r \r Greens have a ton of movement and were quick the day we played making for difficult putting. Bunkers are a beast, very deep and unforgiving although the sand is pure white and fluffy - didn't help us. The course was in great shape, best of any public course we played, rivaled my buddies country club.\r \r In short, we had a blast and now consider FT the place to take clients knowing we will have a great time and have tons to discuss over a cold brew on their deck. A ""must play"" when in Colorado. Pros: Layout, Variety, Conditions, Customer Service, Character, Deck, Food and Cold Beer Cons: Tough to get a tee time more

Putt Putt Golf 5/17/2004

If your idea of a great golf match involves windmills, clown faces, and drawbridges, then play Fossil Trace. From a 91 yard par 3, from the back tees, to a 659 yard uphill par 5, this course is a joke! There were huge quarry stone pillars in the middle of one hole! It was in good shape and the staff was professional, but I would not recommend this course to anyone who wants a good test of golf. Pros: Clubhouse more
