I had been on medicaid for pregnancy only and had a procedure done that i was told may or may not be covered. it ended up not being covered (apparently) but i was never sent a bill for it. i was sent a ""do not pay"" statement before it was sent to medicaid but the radiology department never sent me an actual bill. so my bill ended up at imc. when i told imc this they basically told me they didnt believe my story and said they could only accept $400 toward my balance. just so you all know, this is not true! debt collecting companies have to take what u offer them. if they wont accept it over the phone, mail them a check! and if they reject it and then try to take u to court, it will get thrown out bc the judge will see that u tried to pay and they wouldnt take your money!
another thing, is the imc wanted me to max out credit cards and even apply for a bank loan to pay them my bill. which really sounds like theyre trying to scare up more business for themselves, get people to pay one debt by occuring another one. sounds fishy.
i told them what i could afford and listed many of my monthly bills and told them it wasnt my fault that the radiology department couldnt send me a bill themselves, and that $50 is what they would have accepted per month. it wasnt my fault they took on the radiology dept's bill that should have come to me in the first place from radiology and not from imc. i told them i didnt appreciate them talking to me like i was a criminal and a liar.
eventually they came down to my level. if they play hard with you, just play even harder back. know your rights and laws!
