Like its sister restaurant up the street, Kashkaval, Balkanika specializes in fresh vegetable dishes and a casual, semi-rustic atmosphere. Most of the food is cold, but they can heat them up for you if you want. Vegetarians will find lots to love here, with interesting dishes based on various beans, peppers, tomato, even celery root. Meet dishes are available too, but I was so happy to see such a range of meatless dishes, that I stuck with those. Warm pita accompanies the meal, and beer and wine are available - as at Kashkaval, lots of wine is available (but I can't say more because I did not expore it). The environment is halfway between a Balkan or Middle Eastern deli and a pleasant country restaurant. The prices are reasonable, the food is healthy... I'll be back!
