I didn't expect much when my boyfriend and I visited the Wright Brothers National Memorial at the start of our cross-country road trip this summer (check out our trip blog, "A Mini & A Map"), but I was very pleasantly surprised by how wonderful the memorial is. It's more than a memorial -- there's a monument, but there are also museums, displays, a gift shop, picnic areas, and a really great sculpture. Don't assume that you'll breeze through this place in half an hour -- allow yourself enough time to check out the museums and special displays, walk along the monuments marking the distances of the first 4 flights, visit the large monument with a great view of the coast, and check out the sculpture of the first plane that's behind the monument. Definitely worth a visit, and an enjoyable stop for both kids and adults.
