Downriver Potomac isn’t known for crystal clarity or cleanliness. Wildlife is limited to oaks and ducks. If getting out of the city is hard, Jack’s is your spot for river-based water sports. For $12 an hour, ride solo or tandem in kayaks and canoes up and down the river. Brightly festooned, the kayaks are a bit wobbly, so break out the guns to keep yourself upright. It’s also best not to take a dip. In the allotted pre-paid time, we were able to get around Roosevelt Island, a solid trek, but definitely doable. And hey, you actually accomplished something on Sunday instead of watching Top Chef repeats.
