Somehow I suck at using a paddle, but my experience with Jack's was a lot of fun. If you're tired of the same old dinner-and-a-movie date or don't want to blow $50 on drinks at some skeezy bar with friends, just rent a boat at Jack's and enjoy the nature on and around the Potomac. It's pretty inexpensive ($12 to rent per person), they have plenty of boats and kayaks, and they're good about safety (you have to wear a lifevest). I've done a twilight tour with Jack's (runs $25.00); it lasts for 90 minutes (or more depending on how big a group you're in and how slow everyone is). If you're in the back, you can't always hear what your guide is saying, but they're knowledgeable nonetheless. You get great views of Georgetown/Foggy Bottom/Rosslyn from the river, and get to watch lots of planes flying overhead. And on top of that all, you'll get a good arm workout and a tan if you're going during the day.
