We just moved into this house a couple months ago, and today the a/c went out upstairs. [Outside temp today was 96F.] Called John Moore at 3:30p; they said a service technician would be here between 5 and 8p...and he was! That's the good news. The bad news is that he charged $438.95 for a new thermostat: $89 for diagnosing the problem plus $349 for a programmable thermostat that sells on Amazon for $60. That means we paid this guy $378 for about 1.5 hours of work. We did not allow him to hose down our outside a/c unit for $99 or sell us a part we already had for another $349. If we had, the bill would've been closer to $900. Fool me once, my bad. These guys won't get another chance to gouge me a second time, so their loss. And I'll tell everyone I can to watch out for these guys!.... Update: Turns out that I should not have been charged $89 for diagnostics if I had them do the work, and am to get a credit back on my card for the charge. But $349 for installing a $60 thermostat is still very high when you consider that labor for about 1.5 hours of work was over $190/hour. Nice work if you can get it! Still think I'll find someone else next time.
