I hired Kate to slipcover a new IKEA Karlstad sofa. The first thing that impressed me was that she didn't comment on the negatives of buying an IKEA sofa--she was hip to the fact that lots of people who have done their homework are buying IKEA and looking to customize it for a less ubiquitous look. I knew I wanted a slipcovered sofa that could be easily washed (I have a toddler), but I also didn't want to sacrifice my hard-to-find choice of a turquoise sofa. She helped me pick out a nice cotton twill in the perfect color that she had prewashed (another nice advantage to the custom cover).
When she came to my house to deliver and put on the new cover, I was amazed at how upholstered it made the sofa look. This was not a shabby-chic, slouchy-cover look! It is beautifully made and exceeds my expectations. It is not a cheap product, but when I factor in the cost of the sofa and the cover, I still didn't spend any more than I would have on a Room and Board or Crate and Barrel sofa with only 2 or 3 boring fabric choices (and only 1 or 2 styles available in a slipcovered option).
Now that I see how upholstered a slipcover can look, I will most likely use her again to slipcover existing pieces of mine as they wear out instead of bothering with regular upholstery.
Pros: flexibility with fabric, true washability, quality
