Great custom couch option 5/3/2010

I hired Kate to slipcover a new IKEA Karlstad sofa. The first thing that impressed me was that she didn't comment on the negatives of buying an IKEA sofa--she was hip to the fact that lots of people who have done their homework are buying IKEA and looking to customize it for a less ubiquitous look. I knew I wanted a slipcovered sofa that could be easily washed (I have a toddler), but I also didn't want to sacrifice my hard-to-find choice of a turquoise sofa. She helped me pick out a nice cotton twill in the perfect color that she had prewashed (another nice advantage to the custom cover). When she came to my house to deliver and put on the new cover, I was amazed at how upholstered it made the sofa look. This was not a shabby-chic, slouchy-cover look! It is beautifully made and exceeds my expectations. It is not a cheap product, but when I factor in the cost of the sofa and the cover, I still didn't spend any more than I would have on a Room and Board or Crate and Barrel sofa with only 2 or 3 boring fabric choices (and only 1 or 2 styles available in a slipcovered option). Now that I see how upholstered a slipcover can look, I will most likely use her again to slipcover existing pieces of mine as they wear out instead of bothering with regular upholstery. Pros: flexibility with fabric, true washability, quality more

Best Creative Resource! 7/18/2009

Kate's creativity is unmatched! I have worked with her over many years, designing slipcovers, pillows and draperies. You should see what she can do to an old leather couch! She is wonderful to work with as a partner, designer and friend. I have had the opportunity to have my houses photographed for several design publications and her work is showcased beautifully - giving further credibility to her talents! more

An Artist's Approach 6/17/2009

I am a professional interior designer and in my opinion there is no one who can beat Kate's flair with fabric. The way she combines colors, textures and patterns in her creations reveals the artist that she is. Her chosen medium just happens to be fabric. She demonstrates meticulous care in the execution of all she produces. I recommend Chairwear without reservation. Pros: Small shop that can cater to your whims. Cons: Small shop open by appointment primarily. more

peppy and tasteful furnishing 6/10/2009

Kate Nason brings a lot of serious professional skills to her trade. But “Chairwear” excels through Kate’s rare gift for creating soft furnishings with seemingly effortless results. Her designs are tasteful, well executed and of sensual elegance. But they never are stuffy or pretentious. Uta Fehlhaber-Smith Pros: small but special more

sublime slipcovers, luscious fabrics and expert advice 6/8/2009

We (my husband and I) are the sort of people who buy furniture once in a blue moon, and we find the process stressful and confusing. Kate Nason, owner of Chairwear, cheerfully led us through the process of choosing new furniture for our living room, then held our hands through the process of choosing fabric for slipcovers for the new furniture. She made the entire process enjoyable, and I am very pleased to say that after 5 years of heavy use (including 1 dog, 1 cat and 4 children) the slipcovers are going strong. They were sewn with a great deal of skill and care, and were worth every penny in terms of investing in the longevity of our furniture. We have recommended Chairwear to many friends over the years, and will continue to do so with a great deal of confidence and enthusiasm. Kate has excellent taste, can offer design advice on a wide range of design styles, and is personable and a delight to spend time with. She has an innate design sense and a certain ability to mix fabrics that always result in a fabulous finished result. Pros: personalize and professional service Cons: what's not to like? more

Designs to Feed Your Senses and Your Soul 6/7/2009

Designs to Feed Your Senses and Your Soul\r \r Exquisite. ....Lush..... Gorgeous..... Exotic...... How else can I describe the intricately and beautifully detailed large down filled designer pillow that Kate created for me? Designed with a central panel of wine colored silk with gold -threaded designwork from an antique Indian sari, bordered by strips of soft lush velvet, and sensuous tiger-lilied colored dupioni silk, this work of art is now the central focus of my living room decor. But the best part? At the end of a long day, I sink into it's lush softness and artistry, prop my feet up on a low lying antique lacquered Chinese table and say ""Ahhhhh!"" musing upon the mystery of the woman who wore this sari that brushed her feet in long ago, exotic lands across the ocean. I feel as if I'm sinking into a poem that could be written by Tagore, Rumi or Hafiz.\r \r Designer and seamstress extraordinaire, Kate Nason of Chairwear, magically creates and designs slipcovers, pillows, and drapes with an unequalled ability to weave together colors, fabrics and textures that reflect you as a person, as well as your home. Having worked with Kate before, I was able to explain to Kate by phone what colors I was interested in for a large pillow as a central focus for an oversized, upholstered chair. Being a people person, she ""knew"" me, and chose fabrics and design materials that went way beyond my fantasies. I have utter trust in her ability to combine colors and designs that are intricate and visually stimulating. Thus with this pillow, I was able to give her a general idea of what I was hoping for, and she created a beautiful work of art exceeding my wildest expectations, without me even seeing the fabrics beforehand! That is how much I trust her artist's eye and design creativity.\r \r But you don't want to miss an opportunity to co-create works of artistry to grace your home, so do take advantage of the opportunity to set up a personalized appointment with Kate. You will be enchanted by her artistry, and warm, outgoing personality. Together she will help you transform your home into a sanctuary so that you, too, can walk into your house at the end of the day, sink into one of her lovely creations and say ""Ahhhhhhh!"" \r A true artist, a true professional- Oregon surely has a treasure to be found in Chairwear's Kate Nason. \r \r She will feed your senses and your soul. Ahhhhh!!\r \r more
