I was in need of plumbing services due to a leak caused by a nail driven through a pipe during construction. First of all their technician was very courteous and professional. I was a little shocked by the up front price of $422.86 but I did agree and authorize the work (fee included a $99 emergency fee which was fine). In doing so, I figured this was a much bigger job than it obviously was.
Considering this plumber was on site 45 minutes I completely regret not sending him packing. $323.86 to cut a 6"x6" section of drywall and replace a small section of 3/4" line is a ripoff.
After speaking with my builder and numerous other reputable plumbing companies it was clear to me that I was taken advantage of. I contacted Progressive's vice-president after the fact and encountered a very defensive and confrontational attitude which caused me to lose my temper. He stated that they pull their rates from a nationally published book and that I would have been charged the same amount if the repair took 8 hours (does this make sense to anyone???).
All I can say is what contractor charges $323 for 1 hour labor? Progressive thinks that is fair evidently. Perhaps they should use common sense when billing a customer instead of referring to their book.
The technician repeatedly apologized for the cost being so high and allowed me to print out a $20 coupon...wow, what a deal.
BOTTOM LINE...DON'T CALL PROGRESSIVE PLUMBING...call a smaller reputable company.
Pros: Neat professional work
Cons: Pricing is unfair and not competitive
