I'd like to say in response to the family's post from jan 2010 (AWFUL AWFUL PLACE) that i agree that this is NOT a great pediatric practice. However as a nurse practitioner myself some of the gripes they stated are not justified\r
1. It is the MD's/NP's job to recommend vaccines for your child based on national health standards. It is your right as a parent to refuse and you shouldnt be made to feel like an idiot if you do refuse. HOWEVER it is legally necessary for the provider to document that they did recommend these and that YOU chose to refuse them so that when your child comes down with and possibly dies from a vaccine preventable disease YOU are legally responsible NOT them!! So it is not fair to be upset that they put this info in your child's chart. And by the way there is overwhelming scientific proof that vaccines DO NOT cause autism or other such developmental delays but lay people may have a hard time weeding out all the FALSE info on the internet, and believe me there is ALOT of it out there.\r
2. Fevers do scare parents BUT fevers should NOT be considered dangerous. A fever from illness can lead to a sezuire in a child but usually only in children younger then 3 years old AND the degree of the temp does not really coorelate with risk of this occuring. Children can have a sezuires with temps as low as 101 and have NO negative side effects with temps as high as 105. It is actually how FAST the body temp rises and not how high it gets that brings on a febrile sezuire. Febrile sezuires are usually very brief in nature and cause no long term comlications for children when they do occur. Granted you should not have had to page mutliple times or made feel bad that you did call.
