My dog Jake injured his back when he was eight years old, resulting in his hind feet not working properly. He would drag on his knuckles, particularly when he got tired. Eventually, he lost use of his back legs altogether.
After consulting with a surgeon -- who advised against surgery, given Jake's age -- we began swimming Jake twice a week with Two Hands Four Paws. The difference in Jake's overall strength and attitude was impressive. He couldn't relearn to walk, but in the water he could swim freely, even using his back legs to some degree.
Leslie McMahon helped get Jake fitted for a wheelchair cart, and with it, he was able to take walks around the neighborhood again.
Disabled dogs are a lot of work, but it was great having the Two Hands Four Paws staff as a resource. We lost Jake at 14. I know his last six year were much better for all their hard work.
Pros: Friendly, caring and knowledgeable
