Shocked at the level of carelessness 12/16/2010

I have never written a negative review in my life, but I could not stand by and keep quiet after my experience at Dr. Huffstutler's office. I was treated very coldly, and carelessly by the staff, and then after I experienced pain, I was denied treatment. I am happy to go somewhere else and I will report my experiences to the local and state dentistry boards. I have very healthy teeth and take pride in them. They have been sensitive all of my life, and we discussed this sensitivity in depth. I have had 3 fillings and never had any pain with standard Novocain. I did not go in to the office with any problems. After pressuring me to agree to a questionable amount of suggested work on my teeth and assuring me that I was a good candidate for Zoom whitening, I went in the day after my initial exam. Again, I mentioned to the hygienist that I was worried about the Zoom being very painful on my sensitive teeth. She dismissed my fears and set me up. After 15 minutes of ultraviolet light and peroxide gel on my teeth, I was overcome by the most intense nerve pain I have ever had. The pain was so bad I was sobbing. I was unable to complete even 1/3 of the procedure. The Hygienist acted cold toward me and as if I was neurotic, imagining my pain. After this experience, Dr. Huffstutler said that he would not do my general dental work because of my ""special sensitivity"" and that I needed to be sedated (another 700$) for him to complete the work the next day. I questioned this conditional, because I have had very successful, pain free dental work (deep and shallow fillings) done with Novocain only, but I agreed to go ahead and get it over with, since it would be tomorrow. No one spoke to me about how this sedation was going to happen. A girl called me to get a pharmacy number so they could call in my medication for sedation. I asked her how she knew how much to give me and if it would interact with my daily medications. I told her what they were and she told me she would call me back with the information after she called in my prescription. The next day no one had called, so I had to call back to remind the office about my daily medication. Judy answered the phone and asked me again, ""what is your medication? And what is it for?"" I told her again. She then told me the doctor was busy but he would find out later. I researched the medications they were going to use to sedate me, and when used properly, they do not interact with my daily medication. I was surprised when Judy called back and told me that Dr. Huffstutler has decided that he won?t do my dental work because the medication he would use for oral sedation ?would not work on me? and that I need to find a specialist to do IV dentistry. I asked for a recommendation and she told me to ?call my insurance?. I don?t need sedation or IV dentistry at all?these suggestions and decisions are excessive and preposterous. I was treated carelessly and as if I was too much of a problem to deal with. more
