I initially went to them because another shop had overtightened the spokes on one of my wheels, leading to a rim failure, and Sellwood Cycle Repair offers a lifetime guarantee on wheels they build. The two wheels they built for me are the best wheels I have ever owned - rock solid, and go years without needing trueing. The owner, Erik, also was very, very helpful when it came time to replace my crankset - Shimano no longer made the crankset that came on my bicycle originally, and he researched the best choice for a replacement. Of course, it worked beautifully. I've also gone in to ask about a ticking noise in the crank, and one of the employees spends a couple minutes explaining how to adjust the crankset tension for me. More than that, however, I'm just continually blown away by the fact that Erik greets me by name - ""Hi Kurt"" - despite the fact that I rarely need to come into the shop more than once a year. Hundreds of bikes go through that shop every year, and he somehow remembers the odd commuter guy with the old Trek. Amazing.
