I go to Kampai Japanese Steak House & Sushi bar all the time and I heard that they have a new section called YuYu up and running. So I tried it.\r First, I was surprised that it was not a typical Surburban Japanese restaurant where they have sushi menu and some Japanese related items so called fusion menu. It was more than just a Japanese style of cooking. My girl freind ordered scallop and I ordered yuyu sampler for appetizer.\r Scallop was great! it was golden brown broiled and drizzled with citrus dressing to cut down the richness of black truffle mushroom crust and came with refreshing baby arugular salad. Baby arugular salad at Japanese restaurant?\r My sampler was better than hers. 'Cause I had a scallop, sake steamed mussels, homemade crab cake and tuna tartare on a one plate.\r I thought it was a neat idea to have 4 appetizers at once.\r \r My girl freind had a cup of shrimp bisque and I had a salad. Her bisque was very smooth and she found a big prawn hidden in the soup . My salad looked like one from a 4star restaurant in downtown. Mixed green with miso whole grain mustard dressing, candied walnuts, crispy lotus root chips, Fuji apple slices and homemade apple chip! very detailed salad it was.\r \r My girl freind had salmon & I had a black cod. Salmon was dusted with black powder and sauteed. Our waitress said that they toasted black rice & grind it to make rice flour. My girl freind said it was the most tender salmon she ever had. We found later they use the same salmon to make the sushi. WOW! My black cod was broiled with Miso and served with some kind of sweet chinese green beans. Cod was like butter. It melted in my mouth and the plate came with 3 different mini dishes like Bento style. Oh, our entree were served with real crab meat california rolls and vegetables.\r \r It was not the end. I had green tea flavored creme brulee and my girl friend had summer berry napoleon with pastry cream. They were GOOOOOD!\r \r We spent $37 each on our food and plus drink & tips and we were stuffed! We felt like we ate at downtown Chicago with less money. Great food! Friendly service and Nice Price! I will definatly recommand this place whoever wants a romantic dinner with affordable check. We will be BACK!\r Pros: good food all the way Cons: need more customers more
