Finally a place that serves real Peruvian food! 2/14/2009

First off...let me start off by saying that I would NEVER post a review about any place. But for the first time in my life, I have found a place that brings me back to my Peruvian roots! I have been searching for this for years. I have to go back home - (which is California) to get a taste of a good and yummy home cooked meal. Now I have heard of El Inka from my father and brothers Our entire family was born and raised in Lima, Peru (so we are very picky when it comes to authentic Peruvian food! VERY PICKY) My father was so impressed and started to miss Peru! I have been to Andina and Del Inti. To me- and this is my opinion- is so NUEVO PERU! Over prized, stuffy, and small portion- bottom line not impressed and would never go to those places again. ( I have given them a few chances.) Now El Inka- Downside- Doesn't look like a fancy place, not very attractive-kind of remindes me if my big family tried to make a resturant in our little 2 bedroom apartment back in SF growing up. Really tiny place- a very sweet waitress who was running her tale off. The wait was a bit for our orders to come up, but you know- it was worth every minute. I ordered- Papa la huancaina $4.50 (delicious and creamy- egg not rubbery and tiny like Andina's, anticuchos (nice size portions and tender), and Ceviche Mixto. (I almost devoured it! Tangy with all the lime and not overly spicy- Seafood and Fish was fresh and a pretty nice size portion (price ranged from $8-12 depending what type of ceviche) Were as Del inti and Andina very small serving bland (andina) and over priced!) Everything was so fresh and melted in my mouth. For dinner, I had the Caucau, Lomo Saltado, and The Breaded Lamb with papa fritas and of course 6 Inca Colas! All of this for under $60 bucks. Dinner for 3 of course! You had to roll us out! It would be a disappointment to see this place close. Reasonable in price and well worth the drive! This is what I call real Peruvian food. I will to spread the word!!! Pros: Delicious food, reasonable price, nice waitress and very sweet cooks in the kitchen! Cons: Not very attractive and flashy and pretty chilly, but if everything else is above and beyond WHO CARES!!! more
