Real South American Cuisine Done Right! 7/22/2010

All I can say is WOW! I was in the mood for some good rotisserie chicken like I'd found in my recent trip to Ecuador. Each region had a different style of spicing the chickens, but all were amazing to my gringo taste buds. So to start out, I haven't been to Lima, Peru - the style they are representing - but what I had was as good or better than anything I've ever had. The CEVICHE = heaven. Lawdy! It had fish, octopus, squid, shrimp, all in a nice spicy lime marinade, and came with the big fat south american corn and thick slices of yam. To die for, giant portions, and as tender and fresh tasting as ceviches I've had on the coast of Ecuador! The price was not much more than you'd pay in S.A. And the BIRD! Outstanding. They use a real wood fire to cook and the rub or marinade is great, lots of cumin and a balanced smokiness. They have three very unique sauces to spice the bird (or whatever, I loved the yellow chile sauce on the pinto beans). The fried yucca was simple and just right, and came with yet another great sauce. The owner brought us out some deep fried plantain slices to try with a passionfruit-chile reduction sauce. That pretty much knocked me out of my chair in foodgasm. To sum up, for me it was more than a meal, it was a trip. The food was even better than the best ""pollo a la brasa"" restaurants I visited in Loja, EC. The atmosphere is very inviting, it's small and simple, and perfect. I should mention I've been to Andina and while I love their food, Pollo a la Brasa El Inka blew me away with it's authenticity and I could afford to eat there every day! Go tonight! Pros: Amazing food, incredibly friendly service, family-operated Cons: No beers or wine, too far from me to go as often as I'd like more

well worth the drive 12/31/2009

This place is great. loads of authentic Peruvian food for the right price. The family that runs the place is as sweet as can be. My family is from Lima and this is the best place in Portland that we have found. I recommend the Lomosaltado or the Aji de Gallina and yes the rotisserie Chicken is amazing. Pros: amazing Peruvian food, Great family restaurant more

Finally a place that serves real Peruvian food! 2/14/2009

First off...let me start off by saying that I would NEVER post a review about any place. But for the first time in my life, I have found a place that brings me back to my Peruvian roots! I have been searching for this for years. I have to go back home - (which is California) to get a taste of a good and yummy home cooked meal. Now I have heard of El Inka from my father and brothers Our entire family was born and raised in Lima, Peru (so we are very picky when it comes to authentic Peruvian food! VERY PICKY) My father was so impressed and started to miss Peru! I have been to Andina and Del Inti. To me- and this is my opinion- is so NUEVO PERU! Over prized, stuffy, and small portion- bottom line not impressed and would never go to those places again. ( I have given them a few chances.) Now El Inka- Downside- Doesn't look like a fancy place, not very attractive-kind of remindes me if my big family tried to make a resturant in our little 2 bedroom apartment back in SF growing up. Really tiny place- a very sweet waitress who was running her tale off. The wait was a bit for our orders to come up, but you know- it was worth every minute. I ordered- Papa la huancaina $4.50 (delicious and creamy- egg not rubbery and tiny like Andina's, anticuchos (nice size portions and tender), and Ceviche Mixto. (I almost devoured it! Tangy with all the lime and not overly spicy- Seafood and Fish was fresh and a pretty nice size portion (price ranged from $8-12 depending what type of ceviche) Were as Del inti and Andina very small serving bland (andina) and over priced!) Everything was so fresh and melted in my mouth. For dinner, I had the Caucau, Lomo Saltado, and The Breaded Lamb with papa fritas and of course 6 Inca Colas! All of this for under $60 bucks. Dinner for 3 of course! You had to roll us out! It would be a disappointment to see this place close. Reasonable in price and well worth the drive! This is what I call real Peruvian food. I will to spread the word!!! Pros: Delicious food, reasonable price, nice waitress and very sweet cooks in the kitchen! Cons: Not very attractive and flashy and pretty chilly, but if everything else is above and beyond WHO CARES!!! more

Roasted Chicken in Gresham! 6/30/2008

I was told that there was a new restaurant in town with the name ""El Inka"" which served Peruvian Food. I went online and searched for this restaurant but didn't find anything. Instead I found some reviews about a Costa-Rican restaurant, which is why I am here.\r \r I have found that ""El Inka"" that I was looking for is actually in the same address as ""Casa de Pollo"". As it turns out, ""Casa de Pollo"" is no longer in business. \r \r El Inka's environment is casual and friendly. There is a tall waiter who almost always laugh about anything. People seems to like him, as when I go there, people are always make jokes with him.\r The food is cheap and delicious. The price ranges from $5.99 to $14.99. \r \r I have eaten 1/4 Chicken, Rice, Salad and paid $7.99 plus some Peruvian juice called Maracuya which is a Passion Fruit Juice ($2). El Inka is seems to be specialized in chicken. Almost all of their menus included chicken. I paradise for the chicken lovers like me! \r There are also some seafood, I haven't tasted it yet, but next time I will when I return with my girlfriend.\r \r I was satisfied and happy that I will most certainly return.\r more

Fantastic and Cheap Costa Rican Food 12/7/2007

Great comida tipica!!! I moved to Portland from Costa Rica and was thrilled to find this place. It's worth the drive out to Gresham!! The chicken was fabulous. The platanos maduros were just what I've been missing. It's certainly a family place!! Yum Yum. Oh, and did I mention cheap?!? Dinner for two was just $15. And we ate a lot. Highly recommended. Pros: food, price Cons: nope more

Best Kept Secret in Gresham 4/8/2007

If you're looking for tacos and tamales, don't come here. While Gresham has it's share of really good Mexican restaurants, Casa Del Pollo specializes (but is not limited to) Costa Rican fire roasted chicken and chicken dishes, hence the name. The food is authentic Costa Rican and oh sooooo good. Dining here is like visiting the home of a close friend. It is owend by a local family and the service is warm and gracious. The chicken is roasted right there. The menu isn't particularly extensive, but what is offered is done very very well. Aside from chicken dishes, they offer a few beef and vegetarian dishes, along with Cental American favorites such as plantains. Did I mention the price? The all-day Costa Rican breakfast of 2 eggs atop a delicious mix of rice and beans with a side of fried plantains and tortillas is $4.75!!! A family dinner for 4 of a whole fire-roasted chicken, rice, beans, tortillas and pop is $23. My family of 4 - dad, mom and 2 teen boys - can eat here for less than Burger King, and be full on healthy food. This food is not swimming in yellow cheese. The tortillas come with both a spicy red sauce and a garlic-infused oil with finely chopped parsley that is just wonderful when drizzeled over anything. When our relatives from the East come to visit this summer, this will be the first new restaurant we will have them try. Did I mention that the food is inexpensive and healthy? Pros: Excellent Food, Warm Service, Price more
