Full Service Network aka PittsburghVoice .... slow pricey DSL ... Shop Around 2/3/2009

Myself and my ex have this service. Her service is near flawless and saves money versus the ridiculous amounts Verizon charges for comparable services. Technical support is very good and responsive and local which means no foreign tech support. HOWEVER... my account has numerous issues with inconsistent service which is usually credited to Verizon's DSL lines. I have had numerous, lengthy problems with my phone and DSL service through PittsburghVoice aka Full Service Network. In my area the max speed for their top DSL plan is only 1.5 mbps which is barely enough for my needs .. and costs about $40 with fees. The phone is a reasonable solution for low call volume. My big gripe with them is they keep adding nuisance fees ala Verizon -- $5 to upgrade from silver to premium DSL... wasn't it enough for me to double the cost? Then when I gave up on their iffy, spotty, too-slow DSL... they wanted to charge me a $40 fee to drop DSL and keep the phone service. I told them take a hike. I am adding Comcast for the internet -- small amount more for 2-3 times faster than I am getting now. Until this company adopts a more open approach to its fees and makes the DSL premium service worth the cost... Save your money. I am also upset over billing issues. They make you pay by automatic debit. They screwed up my debit -- their fault which they admitted -- but the core issue is unresolved. Some of their customer service is adept, and some are rude and argumentative. Getting to a supervisor to discuss your issue doesn't happen. And forget getting credits for poor service -- I had two straight weeks of no service. You have to fight for any adjustments. Their phone service is fine if the Verizon lines around you are stable. Don't waste your money on their DSL if you need speed. Comcast and Verizon FIOS are better choices and many deals available. I now use a cell phone instead but now looking for another Voip to replace this one and there are many alternatives. Pros: Tech support is their strength Cons: Slow DSL, iffy customer service, hidden fees, annoying to deal with more
