Highly Polished Scam Job 1/30/2009

I interviewed with the Kim Brooke talent agency and received a nearly identical high-pressure sales job trying to sell me their acting classes as some others have written about. I wasn't sure if it was a scam at first, but after reading the reviews and looking at how similar it was to my own experience, I believe now that it probably is. \r \r I was also told that I had a great look and that I would have more work than I would know what to do with, each paying several hundred to several thousand dollars plus residuals, but of course I would have to take their $2000 course to learn everything I needed to know first. It felt eerily like I was talking to a high-pressure used car salesman. When I told her I needed a day to think about it, I was told that the classes fill up immediately and if I hesitated I would have to wait months for another opening. When I expressed a concern about putting up that much money I was told I should apply for a credit card or borrow it from someone. She guaranteed I would make back the money in the first month. I think when I realized for sure that it was a great big snow job was when she called me the next day and left me a message saying she had two jobs lined up for me in the Spring and one they even mentioned me by name. I don't know how anyone on earth could have mentioned me by name since she is the first agent I have even talked to and don't even have a head shot done yet. She's been doing this long enough, and apparantly her own acting skills are polished enough to make it sound very credible and believable. She nearly had my checkbook in hand before I managed to wiggle away. While I won't swear she can't deliver what she promises, I think if she could she would not feel a need to push it so hard that your head is swimming by the time you leave. Proceed with caution is my best advice here. more
